After the divorce Sarah Jane and James Chaloner were married in 1888 in Manchester, Lancashire, England.
Both were natives of the UK - Sarah Jane was born at Grantham, Lincolnshire, England about 1845. James was born in Holt, Denbighshire, Wales about 1851.
Sarah Jane was six years older than James.
A 1891 census finds them living in central Manchester when James was 40 and Sarah Jane 46. They lived with two servants – Clara Naglor, aged 18 and Augustus Dalley, aged 33.
Sarah and James moved on from chop houses and Manchester. James followed her into the hotel and hospitality trade and they ended up at the Baltic Fleet, a sailor’s pub on Liverpool’s dockside.
James died on 4 August 1904 aged 53. His address is given as the ‘Baltic Fleet’, Sunnyside Street, Salford. To Sarah Jane he left 634 pounds and 4 shillings.
Sarah was back in Thames the next year managing the Provincial Boarding House.
By 1911 she is noted on Electoral Rolls as a widow, living at Extended Road, Martha Hill, Waihi.
